Can you find Abraham Lincoln in the image below? Think: “Where’s Waldo.” Pretty tough to find any detail, I think.

Historian John Richter studied the photo from the digital archives of the Library of Congress using image enhancement software. He believes he has found President Lincoln in the crowd.

Is this Lincoln? We’ll probably never know since the facial features are just not clear enough to be definitive. The fellow certainly seems to be tall enough and wearing the proper hat. There is only one known image of Lincoln at Gettysburg in which he is hatless. It was taken several hours before he delivered the Gettysburg Address on November 18, 1863. Which means it was taken shortly before retired politician, Edward Everett, delivered his two-hour oration. Lincoln’s remarks lasted only a couple minutes but were infinitely more memorable.

The Library of Congress has thousands of images available in its digital archives.
